It's been awhile..

Sorry, things have been a little hectic over the last month.. add in the fact that I couldn't find a charged battery for the camera, and the blog just doesn't get updated. Since the last time I wrote, we have harvested a number of peas. We got a few meals worth out of them before the powdery mildew took over. I hope to have better luck next year. The bok choy was good, but it reaffirmed my belief that lettuces perhaps should not be in my garden. I had to clean the bok choy meticulously to get the little bugs off of them. I don't know if we will eat enough bok choy to be worth the effort. The tomatoes are growing, and we have several green tomatoes growing. 2 of them succumed to slug infestation. I put little canisters of beer at ground level in the garden and killed about 8 of them. Take that slugs! I'll probably put more out later. I think as far as cost savings goes, the tomatoes will probably be our real "money maker". Who knows, the beans and the zucchini are coming up nicely so far. I planted a number of things in early April, the basil hasn't really grown much. Apparently I was supposed to plant it about now, so hopefully it will take off soon. The pepper plants I planted in early/mid April have grown some. 2 even have peppers growing. The jalapeno didn't mesh well with the garden. I think it was getting too much water, so I moved it into a seperate pot. Then we had record rain.. I might give up and plant a new one. I'm going to give this one a couple of weeks to turn around. Meanwhile the blackberry plants are growing new canes, and the oregano is going gang busters. If anyone needs some oregano, please let me know. By the time I am ready to use it for tomato sauce, it will have taken over the garden! Oh I also planted my sweet potato slips last week, and they are taking nicely. We'll see.... below is what I pulled out of the garden today. mmmm dinner

Told you we had a ton of oregano.

Pole beans coming up
